Clear Your Record with UK’s Leading Police Caution Removal Solicitor
A police caution can remain on your record indefinitely and may appear on DBS checks, international background checks and other forms of vetting. In some circumstances it may be possible to remove a caution entirely through the police Record Deletion Process.
If a police caution is affecting your career, travel or professional registration, it may be possible to have it removed.
Legisia specialises in police caution removal and has successfully secured the deletion of hundreds of cautions from the Police National Computer. We assess whether a caution was issued improperly, unlawfully or is no longer proportionate to retain.

Can a Police Caution Be Removed?
Yes. In certain circumstances a police caution can be removed from police records through the police Record Deletion Process. Cautions are normally recorded on the Police National Computer (PNC) and can remain there indefinitely unless an application is made to have the record deleted.
The police may agree to delete a caution where there are clear grounds showing that it should not have been issued or should no longer remain on record. This may include situations where the caution was issued unlawfully, where proper procedure was not followed, where the individual did not properly admit the offence, or where the continued retention of the record is no longer proportionate or in the public interest.
Whether removal is realistic usually turns on the underlying ground, not just the fact that the caution is causing problems. You can read more in our guide on whether a caution is genuinely deletable.
Applications for deletion are usually made to the police force that issued the caution and must be supported by detailed evidence and legal representations explaining why the record should be removed from the Police National Computer. Each case is assessed individually and decisions are typically made by senior officers under the national Record Deletion Process.
Police cautions can also appear on certain background checks and safeguarding certificates. For example, cautions are commonly disclosed on International Child Protection Certificates (ICPCs) used for overseas roles involving children, Enhanced DBS Certificates, or on ACRO Police Certificates. In some cases, individuals only discover the long-term impact of a caution when applying for international work or enhanced vetting.
Where a police caution is successfully deleted from the PNC, it will generally no longer appear on background checks that rely on police records.

How We Help Remove Police Cautions
Removing a police caution usually requires a carefully prepared application under the national Record Deletion Process. At Legisia Legal Services we manage the process from start to finish.
- Detailed Case Assessment
We review how the caution was issued and whether proper procedures were followed. - Identifying Grounds for Deletion
We assess whether there were procedural failings, lack of legal advice, an invalid admission, or other reasons why the caution should not remain on record. - Preparing Legal Representations
Where grounds exist, we prepare evidence and legal submissions explaining why the caution should be removed from the Police National Computer (PNC). - Submitting the Application
We submit the deletion request to the relevant police force and manage all correspondence through the Record Deletion Process. - Further Challenges if Necessary
If an application is refused, further options may include review, complaints to the ICO, or judicial review proceedings.
If a police caution is affecting your employment, travel or professional reputation, obtaining advice early can help determine whether removal may be possible.
